"Take this heavy caliber tripod mounted little number designed by me, built by me, and you best hope... not pointed at you."
Not an uncommon idea, as most Team Fortress 2 Brony fans can agree that Applejack is the ideal Mane 6 representative for the Team Fortress 2 Engineer character. Some of their character features, sometimes caricaturistic, mesh in a pleasant and often humorous way. Both are southern, both could be described as the "work horses," and both are the ones who can solve the "practical problems." Fans enjoy seeing this representation of Engineer Applejack because they see the similarities in the characters and would find her filling his shoes very humorous. That being said, this is nothing I haven't seen before.
I'm not saying that the idea is dated or overdone, it just lacks the originality and inspiration that some of the greatest artwork on dA is built on. The Engie AJ idea is still very cute and very entertaining and on all other accounts, this piece has it all. The artist did a very good job at not overplaying it. Not to say it is simple, the artist just didn't add to much depth, shades, or lights to lose the charm of the idea. Just like how the the graphics of Team Fortress 2 are just enough to be great while still allowing room for the game to be silly and cartoon-like, this piece did a perfect job of capturing the Engineer Applejack.
I suppose if there are any "problems" with this, it would have to be the originality, and that is not a big let down. It's a great representation of the classic idea, without losing the sense of the character. All I can say is "Lock and load, shugarcube!"
